Technology Overview

A SM-15 IVT unit is undergoing a durability test program at NM Tech University, Socorro, NM.  The IVT is operating in parallel with a fifteen horse power motor, and driving a centrifugal water pump, as shown in the photo below.

The motor operates at 3500 rpm.  This is reduced to 1000 rpm by a 4 inch pulley on the motor turning a 14 inch pulley on the transmission. The output from the IVT varies from 0 to approximately 450 rpm under control of the micro processor on any profile desired.  The output from the IVT is increased by a factor of 3.5, so that the pump turns from 0 to approximately 1575 rpm.
The principal objective of this installation is to validate predictions for MTBF and periodic maintenance cycles.
